It later came under the British control when British agreed to protect the Sheikhdom of the region in 1892 from the rebel tribes, but in 1971 it got independence and became the second emirate of UAE. With the population of 2,106,177 this emirate city is governed by Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum. He is the one behind making Dubai a cosmopolitan city from a tribal area. Dubai is generally known as the hottest holiday destination for the elite class of any country. This is city is also known as shoppers heaven. Even, islands are on for sale here. If you have billions of bucks, you can buy one. This Emirate city is also famous for recruiting man force of other developing countries. Executives in the banking sector and transnational corporations, even workers, skilled labors earn handsome remuneration there as income is tax free there. Let's come to the tourist attractions of this place.Dubai being one of the liveliest place on the earth has the world's largest mall where you can go for shopping if you have a healthy wallet. There are many flea markets on the streets of Dubai from where you can do budget shopping. As this emirate has desert area, desert adventure sports is the one thing to die for. Many private agencies of adventure sports provide 4x4 vehicles, 4 wheel scooters/bikes for desert safari. Burj Khalifa being the tallest building in the world has 163 floors in it, is the most attractive tourist destination, many Hollywood flicks were shot there. As Dubai is also a coastal city, you have to go to Palm Jumeirah beach which is one of the most exotic locations of the world. When in Dubai you must go on a cruise so hire a yacht or book a ticket of private cruise liner. Dubai is also famous for its night life. The emirate city has N-number of buzzing discotheques which invites famous international DJs. If you want to enjoy some pure Arabic tunes you can go to any Shisha lounge which plays soothing Arabic music and provide Hookahs (Shisha) with numerous flavors. The city has a huge population of car lovers. You can witness Ferraris, Lamborghinis and many high end expensive sports car rolling on the city streets. Even Police patrols in Ferraris in Dubai. The law and order is strict in Dubai as they follow the Islamic Shari'yat law. Police is provided with high end arms, ammunition and vehicles.
