United Nations: Indian External Affairs Minister Sushma Swaraj held bilateral meetings with seven Foreign Ministers here during which ‘strong support' was found for India's permanent membership in a reformed UN Security Council, according to the Indian mission to the UN.

The leaders she met Wednesday on the sidelines of the UN General Assembly meeting were British Foreign Secretary Philip Hammond, Greek Deputy Prime Minister Evangelos Venizalos and Foreign Ministers Ali Karti of Sudan, Dunya Maumoon of the Maldives, Borge Brende of Norway, Abdyldaev Erlan Bekeshovich of Kyrgyzstan and Aminu Wali of Nigeria. Britain is a member of the Security Council.

“There was strong support expressed during these meetings for India's permanent membership in a reformed UN Security Council,” the Indian mission said in a press release.

Swaraj “invited them to participate in the ambitious projects and proposals unveiled by the new government in India, especially through their investments in the Indian economy,” the press release added.
