Bali: Underworld don Chhota Rajan's deportation from Indonesia's Bali has been delayed as the airport will remain closed till tomorrow morning due to a volcanic eruption in the resort island.

The airport will remain closed till 8:45 am tomorrow due to volcanic eruptions on Mount Rinjani, a nearby island, officials said.

Yesterday also, the closure of the airport following the spewing of volcanic ash forced the cancellation of Rajan's deportation to India. 55-year-old Rajan was scheduled to be taken to India by a special aircraft but he continued to be in detention in Denpasar.

An Indian Police team, which arrived in Bali on Sunday, completed all formalities for taking custody of Rajan and flying him to India. Rajan will be taken in a special aircraft, which has been brought here from India.

Maharashtra Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis on Tuesday informed that the arrested gangster will be brought to Mumbai.

"Chhota Rajan will be brought to Mumbai. He is likely to be kept in high-security cell of Arthur road prison," he had told reporters in Mumbai.

Rajan, whose real name is Rajendra Sadashiv Nikalje, is wanted in over 75 heinous crimes ranging from murder, extortion to smuggling and drug trafficking.

He was arrested in Bali on the basis of a Red Corner Notice from Interpol and following a tip off by Australian authorities to the police in Indonesia.

In 2000, there was an attempt on Rajan's life when his arch rival and India's most wanted terrorist Dawood Ibrahim's men tracked him down to a hotel in Bangkok but he managed a dramatic escape.
