Hazaribagh (Jharkhand): Senior BJP leader Yashwant Sinha on Wednesday said his son Jayant got the party ticket to contest from the Hazaribagh LS constituency on his "own merit", amidst opponents accusing him of promoting dynasty politics.

"Only after I declined to contest and suggested to give the ticket to younger generation, BJP president Rajnath Singh asked me to allow my son Jayant to take my place, to which I agreed," Sinha said at a press conference here.

Reacting to the allegation of encouraging "politics of dynasty" by AJSU party and Jharkhand Vikas Morcha, Sinha said, "Jayant got ticket for this seat not at anybody's mercy, but on his own merit."

Sinha's reaction comes on a day when BJP's prime ministerial candidate Narendra Modi said in Palamau that Congress was a party of Sonia Gandhi and her son Rahul, Samajwadi Party was a party of Mulayam Singh Yadav and his son Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Akhilesh Yadav and daughter-in-law and RJD was a party of Lalu Prasad and his wife Rabri Devi and that dynasty politics had no importance in democracy
