The most heartbreaking event of the year was the Kedarnath devastation.In the devastating flood one of the most scared hindu pilgrimage centre was devastated that also took thousands lives. There were other events also such as the arrest of Devyani Khobragade in New York has caused a major diplomatic row. The most suprising event of 2013 was the father son duo Asaram bapu and Narayan sai's involvement in sex row.Here are the Top 10 events of India in 2013:1. Indian Diplomat case: Devyani Khobragade Devyani Khobragade, India's deputy consul general in New York, is the daughter of a retired IAS officer of Maharashtra cadre Uttam Khobragade. She was arrested by New York police on visa fraud charges and released on a USD 250,000 bond after she pleaded not guilty in a court.She has been accused of lying on the visa application for an Indian national Sangeeta Richard, who worked at her home from November 2012 to June 2013 for less than four dollars an hour.The arrest of Devyani Khobragade in New York caused a major diplomatic row.2. Uttarakhand floods 2013 A multi day cloudburst centered on the North Indian state of Uttarakhand in June 2013 caused devastating floods and landslides in the country's worst natural disaster since the 2004 tsunami.From 14 to 17 June 2013, Uttarakhand and adjoining areas received heavy rainfall, which was about 375 percent more than the benchmark rainfall during a normal monsoon. This caused the melting of Chorabari Glacier at the height of 3800 metres, and eruption of the Mandakini River which led to heavy floods near Gobindghat, Kedar Dome, Rudraprayag district, Uttarakhand, Himachal Pradesh and Western Nepal, and acute rainfall in other nearby regions of Delhi, Haryana, Uttar Pradesh and some parts of Tibet.Heavy rainfall for four consecutive days as well as melting snow aggravated the floods. 3. Sexaul Assault Case: Asaram Bapu Asaram Bapu is a controversial godman in India. He has been involved in several controversies including criminal cases filed against him involving land encroachment by his ashrams, charge of sexual assault of a minor and his remarks on the 2012 Delhi gang rape. He is the perfect example of crimes against women in the garb of religion. This year on the night of 15 august this self styled godman was booked by Jodhpur police for raping a minor girl student of his Chhindwara gurukul ashram.4. Tehelka Case: Tarun Tejpal The latest in the list is Tarun J Tejpal who is an Indian journalist, publisher, novelist, philanthropist and former editor-in-chief of Tehelka magazine. He stepped down as editor for six months after a woman colleague accused him of sexual assault in November 2013.He has been accused of sexually assaulting a young journalist twice in a hotel during the Think Fest in Goa. 5. Sexual Assault Case: Narayan SaiNarayan Sai is an Indian spiritual leader, singer, lyricist and poet and the son of Asaram Bapu. Like his father, Narayan Sai was charged of sexual assault by two married sisters from Surat this year. The two sisters told Surat Police they were repeatedly raped by Narayan Sai in his ashrams, after which they fled. Initially Narayan Sai denied charges but soon went underground to evade police. According to the police on 10 decemeber 2013, Narayan Sai had allegedly admitted to raping a woman in his father's ashram in Surat and also confessed to having physical relations with 8 other women followers in different parts of the country.6. Gay sex in India The Supreme Court said gay sex between consenting adults is a criminal offence, a major setback for the largely closeted homosexual community in India.The court set aside the Delhi High Court's 2009 judgement that homosexuality should not be treated as a criminal offence, which had been challenged by anti-gay rights activists, social and religious organizations.A bench of Justices G S Singhvi and S J Mukhopadhaya had reserved judgment on March 27 last year on a bunch of petitions, many arguing in support and some against the HC verdict, after hearing arguments on a day-to-day basis for over a month.The bench set aside the Delhi High Court's verdict which had in 2009 decriminalised gay sex among consenting adults in private. 7. India Mars MissionThe Mars Orbiter Mission (MOM), informally called Mangalyaan is a Mars orbiter launched into Earth orbit on 5 November 2013 by the Indian Space Research Organisation.The mission is a "technology demonstrator" project aiming to develop the technologies required for design, planning, management and operations of an interplanetary mission.The Mars Orbiter Mission probe lifted-off from the First Launch Pad at Sriharikota, Andhra Pradesh near Chennai, using a Polar Satellite Launch Vehicle (PSLV) rocket C25 at 09:08 UTC (2:38 PM IST) on 5 November 2013.The launch window was approximately 20 days long and started on 28 October 2013.The MOM probe spent about a month in Earth orbit, where it made a series of seven altitude-raising orbital manoeuvres before trans-Mars injection on 30 November 2013 (UTC).8. Cyclone Phailin Cyclone Phailin, being described as possibly the biggest cyclone in the Bay of Benga ever to hit India, has triggered India's biggest evacuation programme in 23 years which caused substantial damage in Andhra Pradesh and Orissa.It was also the most intense cyclone that crossed Indian coast after the 1999 Odisha cyclone.It is being compared to being as devastating as Hurricane Katrina The system was first noted as a tropical depression on October 4, 2013 within the Gulf of Thailand, to the west of Pnom Penh in Cambodia. 9. Aarushi Hemraj double murder case: It still continues to be India's biggest murder mystery, because nobody, for sure, knows what happened on the night of May 15, 2008. The two were killed on the night of 15–16 May 2008 at Aarushi's home. The case aroused public interest as a whodunit story, and received heavy media coverage. The sensational media coverage, which included salacious allegations against Aarushi and the suspects, was criticized by many as a trial by media.The Special CBI court sentenced the dentist couple Dr Rajesh Talwar and Nupur Talwar to life imprisonment in the Aarushi, Hemraj double murder case.10. Bodh Gaya BlastA series of ten bombs exploded in and around the Mahabodhi Temple complex on 7 July 2013.It is a UNESCO World Heritage Site in Bodh Gaya, India. Five people, including two Buddhist monks, were injured by the blasts. Three other devices were defused by bomb-disposal squads at a number of locations in Gaya.The temple itself and the Bodhi Tree (where Gautama Buddha is believed to have attained enlightenment) were undamaged.
