Thereafter, from 1920 to 1947, he took a prominent part in the activities of the Congress. He was involved in all major political movements such as Non-Cooperation, Civil Disobedience, Satyagraha and Quit India.
For several years, he was a member of Congress Working Committee but declined the offer of presidentship of the organisation.
