Chandigarh, April 7: A gang helping class 10 and 12 students in Haryana's Rohtak district to cheat in examinations has been busted and five people, including the superintendent of an examination centre, have been arrested, police said yesterday.

"The Haryana Police has busted a gang which used to help students use unfair means during examinations for Class 10 and 12 of National Open School being held at a school in a village in district Rohtak and arrested five people, including superintendent of the centre," a police spokesman said here.

The school director, who is among the accused, is absconding and raids were being conducted to arrest him.

The spokesman said police got secret information that money was being collected from the candidates appearing in the examinations for providing them help with unfair means during the examination.

"During investigation, it was revealed that they (the gang) had taken Rs.2,000 to Rs.3,000 from every candidate and police has also recovered Rs.23,000, a photostat machine and a computer from their possession," the spokesman said.

Among the accused, two are examination controllers of the centre. "During interrogation, they also admitted that they have been carrying out this illicit business at various other centres as well," he added.
