Vrindavan, UP, March 25: Over 800 widows on Sunday broke off from ancient tradition and celebrated the colourful festival Holi with flowers at an event  held in Vrindavan, 10 km away from Mathura, birthplace of Lord Krishna.

Hindu widows in India are barred from celebrating Holi.  However, the new change in the mindset of the society was brought with the help of a social organisation, Sulabh International.

The organisation hosted a four-day Holi celebration for the widows which commenced on Sunday.

The large number of widows, who were brought together by Sulabh International, were in a jovial mood, as they sprinkled flower petals and powdered colours on each other.
