New Delhi: Telugu Desam Party (TDP) chief N Chandrababu Naidu yesterday met President Pranab Mukherjee and leaders of political parties, including BJP and Left parties, in an attempt to find an amicable solution to the problem of division in Andhra Pradesh and creation of Telangana state.

Accusing Congress of creating problems in Andhra Pradesh for their political gains, Naidu urged the President to direct the central government to convene joint action committees of both Telangana and non-Telangana regions and civil society organisations and stakeholders to find an amicable solution.

In a memorandum submitted to the President, Naidu attacked Congress party charging it with handling the "sensitive issue" with "political motives."

He alleged Prime Minister Manmohan Singh has also treated division of the state as "an internal affair of Congress party and failed to find a solution to the crisis".

"For political gain, Congress party has played havoc and also they have created problem," he said, alleging Congress and TRS were hand in glove in creating problems in Andhra.

"Because of all these things, for the last two years in Telangana, there were agitations, people committed suicides and bandh organized for so many days in Telangana.

"The same thing is repeating in Seemandhra yesterday. The situation is very bad. For the last 55 days, agitations are going on. People are committing suicides, government is not taking any action to resolve the issue," Naidu told reporters.

"In view of the precarious developments in the state, I have written to the Prime Minister on August 9 and August 28 requesting him to resolve the issue amicably by building reconciliation between the agitation groups. But there is no tangible action from the government of India so far to resolve
the crisis," the TDP leader said.

He said when people of the state are going through "trauma and agony", it is expected that the Prime Minister would take a proactive role as a statesman to resolve the issues.

Instead, the Prime Minister's advice to APNGO leaders to meet (AK) Antony Committee to air their grievances is "inappropriate" as the Antony committee is meant for resolving the internal disputes of Congress party, Naidu said.

Naidu, alongwith senior TDP leaders and MPs met BJP President Rajnath Singh and apprised him of the situation in the state.

Singh said the government "played a joke" with Seemandhra and Telanagana people and said BJP's position is clear that problems of people of Seemandhra also need to be resolved by the government.

Naidu discussed the situation in the state with CPI(M) leaders Prakash Karat and Sitaram Yechury.
