Mumbai: Nearly 12 waiters of Shiv Sagar restaurant in Vile Parle (East) on Sunday night assaulted three girls and two boys between 17 to 25 years. They used steel plates, punches, kicks and everything that came in their hands to beat them up over an argument, reports MidDay.

Five cousins Karan, Krupa, Hiral, Miten and Saloni Shah had gone to the restaurant near Vile Parle station around 9.30 pm. Karan, Krupa and Hiral are hearing and speaking impaired.

They had an argument with one of the waiters following which around 12 waiters from the restaurant got together and started beating them up.

"We had to wait for almost 30 minutes to get a place, as there was a lot of rush in the restaurant. Later when we got a place, the waiter got angry when Miten asked for two menu cards," said Saloni. "After a while when Miten tried to have some mouth freshener and could not open its bottle, the waiter got angry and asked us not to open the bottle."

"When I objected, the waiter abused us and while we were arguing, he hit us with a steel plate. Soon more waiters followed him and started hitting us," said Miten. "They hit my elder brother Karan, Saloni and me. They pushed us to the ground and kicked us. Even my other sisters got hurt. Saloni's gold chain and diamond pendant is also missing. Even our mobile phones have been damaged."

The others in the restaurant gathered and stopped the waiters. The cops were called who took all of them to the police station. Around 12.30 am, the police decided to take a rioting case against the waiters and arrested three of them. They later sent all of them for a medical check up.

"We have arrested three waiters and have taken a rioting case against 10 people. The others will be arrested soon," said Vijay Meru, Assistant Commissioner of Police.
