Vadodara: Gujarat Chief Minister Narendra Modi yesterday announced creation of the new tehsil of Garudeshwar.
Speaking at the foundation-laying ceremony of Sardar Vallabhbhai Patel's statue at Kevadiya, about 90 km from here, Modi said, “Kevadiya Area Development Authority (KADA) will cease to exist with the creation of the new tehsil of Garudeshwar as it will have no role to play.”
The people of tribal-dominated villages near the Narmada dam had threatened to launch an agitation demanding removal of 70 villages from KADA's plans for tourism development.
Modi also said that residents of these villages would get the water of Sardar Sarovar dam and nearby Karjan river.
But he did not make any announcement on construction work on weir at Garudeshwar, which is being opposed by the locals.
