Over to the other side. The Grand Mufti of Kashmir Bashiruddin has clarified that he has simply asked the girls to desist from singing and music because it was un-Islamic and did not issue any threat.
"It was simply an advice. It is up to these girls, who are our daughters, whether they accept it or not. There is no coercion, no threat. Every fatwa is an advice and this one too is an advice."
He lashed out at the ruling National Conference and opposition PDP for opposing his fatwa. He said, both parties are adopting double standards.
"I am Mufti of the whole state. If today, NC, PDP or any other party are not supporting my advice or statement, let them. These things least bother me. The people of Kashmir respect my advice and statements."
And now the militants' spin. Pro-militant Dukhtaran-e-Millat chief Asiya Andrabi said on Tuesday that she never threatened members of the all-gril band Pragaash.
"They are innocent girls. How can I threaten a teenager? What I said was that their families should talk to their children and if they don't, we will go public. The families agreed and we never threatened anyone", says Andrabi.
Andrabi had earlier alleged that the all-girls band was the creation of Central Reserve Police Force.
