The government counter submitted that the GO was only tentative and was fixed to have a uniform time so that all parents should be aware of the time limit for calling for applications and processing the same.
It said 25 per cent of seats in a school would have to be reserved for children of weaker sections and disadvantaged. The bench after perusing the order said the seven day period was too short.
'Taking note of the object, rationale behind the enactment and rules as well as Government Order, we deem it fit to extend the time limit to 15 days starting from May 3 to 18 of every academic year.'
It further directed the School Education Department to pass appropriate orders in this regard within four weeks from the date of receipt of the order.
The Bench also directed the Principal Secretary to government, Department of School Education, to make sure all required steps are taken to comply with provisions of the Act and rules for filling up reservation of 25 per cent of seats for children of weaker sections and disadvantaged groups as per law.
