New Delhi: Over 70 percent school teachers here feel students' level of gratitude towards them has declined over the past 10 years, a survey yesterday said.

As per the 'Pearson Voice of Teacher Survey', 71 percent teachers "felt decline in gratitude" from students in Delhi against the national average of 61 percent.

A whopping 76 percent teachers interviewed from across the country said they considered "gratitude from students" as the best form of recognition even more than financial incentives (60 percent) and recognition from their management (62 percent).

The survey indicated that most teachers (83 percent) believe they are respected in society. However, a large number (79 percent) also perceive the near-absence of enough platforms for teacher recognition in the country.

Released ahead of Teachers' Day that falls Sep 5, the survey was conducted to give voice to the teacher's perspective on changing student-teacher dynamics and bring to notice the emerging challenges faced by educators.

A total of 3,262 teachers from schools and higher education institutes in 223 cities across 25 states were interviewed.

Other findings revealed only 56 percent teachers believed the education system in the country is effective in making an impact on a student's life.
