He was recruited by SIMI in 1998, shortly before the critical Aurangabad convention where jihadists in its ranks first developed an organisational relationship with the Lashkar-e-Taiba.

Soon after, Qureshi left his job to become a full-time Rukun, or organisational cadre.

He became close to a core circle of operatives who were to execute a series of major terrorist attacks, starting with the Gateway of India bombings in 2003.

With Abdul Subhan Qureshi, and many others like him, India do not need an external enemy.

Qureshi's parents hailed from Rampur in Uttar Pradesh. He belongs to a quite well educated family. He has three sisters and three brothers.

His sisters, Shabana, Asma and Safia, have MA Degrees, his eldest sister Farha has been a columnist in an Urdu newspaper “Inquilab” & an independent novelist, his youngest sister Hafsa, studies at Sophia college, Mumbai and none of his three well-educated brothers Imran, Numaan & Salman appear to have never been associated with SIMI.

Qureshi is  married  and have three kids, one son & two daughter named Hanzala, Zainab and Zaweria nicknamed “Juhi”.

He is said to have severed contact with even his wife and kids.

Qureshi's friends and family claim to have no knowledge of what led him to make the decision of joining terror organisation.
