Kolkata: Japanese encephalitis has claimed two more lives in north Bengal in the last 24 hours, a senior health official said today.

The toll in the Japanese encephalitis in the northern part of the state thus rose to 38 since July and the state-wide toll was 40, West Bengal Health Services Director Biswaranjan Satpathy told PTI.

One of the two deaths was reported from Malbazar of Jalpaiguri district while the other one was from Dakshin Dinajpur district, he said, adding that the total number of deaths in the entire state due to different types of encephalitis since January went up to 212.

Satpathy, however, said that there were no fresh cases reported from anywhere in the state.

Talking about dengue incidence, Satpathy said that though there are one or two reports from parts of the state there was nothing to worry about it.

“Yes there are one or two reports regarding dengue but there is nothing to be worried about,” Satpathy said.
