Amritsar, Jul 25: For all the talk of lives being lost because of uncovered borewells in Haryana, Amritsar saw a similar tragedy unfold.
A 25-year-old woman going home on a Kinetic scooter died after she fell as it got stuck in an open manhole.
Kanika Chugh died last night after the mishap took place on Albert Road.
And if one tragedy wasn't enough, a 65-year-old man on way to the railway station fell into the same uncovered manhole this morning. He was critically injured.
Residents said repair work was being carried out by Municipal Corporation workers and they had failed to cover the manhole.
Sewerage department officials, on the other hand, said the manhole cover had been stolen.
