Mumbai: Doctors attending to Indrani Mukerjea—prime accused in the Sheena Bora murder case—at the J J Hospital here today said that she has not contracted dengue.

The 43-year-old former media executive was brought to the state-run facility from Byculla Women's prison yesterday after her platelet levels dropped.

Hospital Dean T P Lahane told PTI today that though Indrani's platelet count has dipped, she has not been diagnosed with dengue.

Her tests (for dengue) are negative, he said.  After hospitalisation, her platelet level has improved considerably, Lahane said, adding that a dip in platelet level may occur sometimes due to fever and not necessarily dengue.

Lahane said a decision on Indrani's discharge will be taken this evening by doctors treating her after proper medical examination and her platelet count check.  Indrani is said to have been suffering from fever and body ache for almost a week.

Yesterday, prison authorities had informed a magistrate court here that Indrani was suspected to have dengue as her platelet count went down to 65,000.

Magistrate R V Adone had directed the prison authorities to produce Indrani (yesterday) in view of the application made by CBI seeking her voice samples.

Indrani, her former husband Sanjeev Khanna and her driver Shyamvar Rai are in judicial custody. The three are accused of killing her 24-year-old daughter Sheena and disposing of the body in a forest in April 2012.

On October 2,Indrani was taken to J J Hospital from Byculla womens' prison in an unconscious state, fuelling speculation that she had overdosed on anti-depressant drugs.  But the probe by Inspector General (prisons) ruled out the possibility of drug overdose, poisoning or suicide bid, and concluded that she had collapsed only because of weakness.
