Nathua La Pass (India-China border), Aug 15: Indian and Chinese soldiers greeted one another  and later danced to a Bollywood number at the Nathu La pass on the Sikkim border today to celebrate India's 66th Independence Day.

Indian jawans sang a patriotic song and danced  with the Chinese soldiers on a Bollywood number in the presence of Chinese army officers who had been invited to the celebrations.

"We are trying to project our culture and tradition", said Col Rajneesh Singh.

Brigadier Ravi Jhaldiyal said, this was part of confidence building measures between the two armies.

The jawans also did an impromptu Bhangra dance.

The Border Personnel Meet (BPM) was organised at Nathu La pass (14,130 metres above sea level) in eastern Sikkim, which falls on the historic Silk route between the two ancient civilisations.

Indian army official Brigadier Ravi Jhaldiyal received the Chinese delegation led by Senior Colonel Wang Ji Ping at the historic Manekshaw Hall at Nathula.  During the BPM, both sides reaffirmed their resolve to strengthen friendship and foster confidence to maintain peace in the sector.

The border meetings between India and China have been taking place since 1995, and are held on January 26, May 15 and August 15 every year.

Chinese and Indian artistes showcase their regional folk culture at a joint programme during these meets.
