Nagpur, Jul 22: About 23 talukas in eastern Vidarbha have received excess rains during the current monsoon season, official sources said yesterday.
These talukas are spread over half a dozen districts in the region, which often faces drought. Gadchiroli district has recorded the highest 1,082.41 mm rainfall since June 1 followed by Chandrapur (967.27), Gondia (950.73), Bhandara (830.19), Wardha (813.10) and Nagpur district (806.61 mm), they said.
Heavy downpour in the last few days has disrupted the normal life in the region. Heavy rains washed away the rail tracks between Sindi and Tuljapur sections in Nagpur division of Central Railway, disrupting train movement for three days.
The down line was restored yesterday and efforts were on to restore the second line.
Meanwhile, Railway cancelled Vidarbha Express, Sewagram Express and Nandigram Express, all Mumbai bound, leaving Nagpur today, a release said here.
