New Delhi: Delhi Police in a circular issued last month directed its officials to download popular social messenger app WhatsApp in order to connect with public directly and assist them at earliest.

A circular issued by the top brass of the force has asked all the officials from Chowki in-charge to Joint Commissioners, to use the app to connect with the general public apart from themselves.

All the officials have been given two weeks time to comply with the directions.

The Delhi Police had on August 6 launched Whatsapp helpline – 9910641064 - to curb corruption. The helpline was launched in addition to the existing helpline numbers -- 1064 and 1800111064.

Describing about the positive features of WhatsApp, the circular, which was issued on August 28 by Special Commissioner (Law and Order) Deepak Mishra, said, “We all must make optimum utilisation of this latest social media - WhatsApp.”

“... all the officials of Delhi Police - Chowki in-charges, SHOs, Sub Division ACPs, district DCPs and Joint Commissioner of Ranges should download WhatsApp and use it not only for public interface but also for disseminating emergent crime related information at their respective jurisdictions,” it further said.
