New Delhi : The foundation for the model of a new type of relationship between India and China has been laid, President Pranab Mukherjee said on Wednesday while noting that their simultaneous re-emergence as two major powers offered a momentous opportunity for realisation of the Asian century.
In his message to Chinese President Xi Jinping on the eve of 66th Anniversary of the founding of the People's Republic of China, the President said both the country share a mutually beneficial relationship within the framework of the closer developmental partnership that has been established during his visit to India last year.
“We have laid the foundation for the model of a new type of relationship between our two major countries. Over the last year, our relationship has strengthened through continued high-level dialogue, growing economic and commercial ties and enhanced people-to-people exchanges. The simultaneous re-emergence of India and China as two major powers in the region and the world offers a momentous opportunity for the realisation of the Asian Century,” he said.
Their relationship was based on mutual trust and understanding which will serve their fundamental interests of the two countries and the world at large, he said.
The 21st century is being projected as ‘Asian Century' where economy, politics and culture will have a dominance over the world.
The President also sent messages to Nigeria, Palau, an Island in the Western Pacific, Tavalu, an Island in the middle of Pacific Ocean, and Cyprus on the eve of their Independence and National Days.
