New Delhi, Oct 5: Taking a serious note of repeated defiance of orders to make himself present before the National Commission for Scheduled Castes (NCSC), its chairman P L Punia has issued arrest warrants against SSP of Gautam Buddha Nagar, to ensure his presence on October 25, the next date of hearing in the case of seven Bhatta-Parsaul women alleging rape.

Commission Chairman P L Punia, while hearing the case yesterday, issued arrest warrants against Jyoti Narayan, SSP of Gautam Budh Nagar, and directed Uttar Pradesh Director General of Police to ensure that he (the SSP) is present before the Commission on October 25, when the Commission hears the case again.

The Commission, had on August 16, after receiving affidavits from seven alleged rape victims, asked the UP police to lodge FIRs against policemen for committing rape of seven Bhatta-Parsaul women.

The Commission had also issued summons against SSP of Gautam Buddha Nagar and directed him to appear before the Commission and apprise it of the action taken in the case.

However, the police did not lodge any FIR in the case and neither did the SSP present himself before the Commission during the case hearing.

Commission chairman P L Punia told PTI that the arrest warrant against the SSP has been issued to ensure that he is present before the Commission, during the next hearing of the case and apprise the Commission of developments in the case.

He added that the SSP has neither registered any case in the matter nor has he made himself available during the case hearing, despite summons issued to him atleast four times.

“The SSP was summoned four times to be present at the Commission, but he never turned up. The police informed us a CB-CID probe had been ordered. The SSP's presence is required to move ahead in the case,” the Commission has said.

Uttar Pradesh DGP Brijlal has, however, refused to comment on the matter today. PTI
