New Delhi: Delhi Police has arrested two persons in connection with the extortion call to the director of Gautam Thapar-controlled Avantha Group over the sale of the company's Korba power plant in Chhattisgarh to Adani power.
According to some media reports, a caller claiming to be from the underworld demanded Rs 25 crore as protection money from the company. The caller threatened that if they fail to provide the money, the director and his family would be eliminated.
A Times of India report said that an FIR was registered under sections of extortion and criminal intimidation on April 14. The incident was kept under wraps and Police Commissioner B S Bassi had formed a team of special cell veterans to crack the case.
In November 2014, Adani Power, led by Gautam Adani, acquired the 600MW power plant in a Rs 4,200 crore deal.
