Heavy rainfall once again brought Millennium City Gurgaon to a standstill as people feared a repeat of last month’s massive traffic jam which was caused by water-logging on roads.
Heavy rains that lashed Delhi-NCR since afternoon today have caused water-logging in several parts of the city including major commercial areas of Hero Honda Chowk, Sohna Road, Manesar, Udyog Vihar, old Gurgaon Road and a few areas in New Gurgaon. Knee-deep water slowed traffic during peak hours, causing long queues of vehicles on the roads.
Thumping its own back, Gurgaon Police tweeted that all hands of the department were at work as the city faced slow traffic.
Commuters from and to Gurgaon were not the only victims of traffic jam but scores were also seen stuck on the roads of capital Delhi as well. Twitter was full of photos of traffic jams and water-logged areas.
Delhi Traffic Poilce was continuously tweeting out about the areas affected by traffic jams due to water logging.
Heavy waterlogging was reported from Ramakrishna Ashram Marg, Deendayal Upadhyaya Marg, Hanuman Setu, Wazirabad, Sarai Kale Khan and Mandi House areas in Delhi.
Traffic jam due to water logging in Gurgaon came after several measures announced by Haryana chief minister Manohar Lal Khattar and top police officials after the massive traffic of July 28 that caused long tailbacks of vehicles on National Highway-8.
The traffic jam caused by water-logging prompted the authorities to order shutting down of schools for two days.
Many motorists abandoned their vehicles and waded through knee-deep water which accumulated on both the carriageways of Delhi-Jaipur road, including Hero Honda Chowk, bringing traffic to a standstill with the tailback extending up to 15-20 km.
