Nitish Kumar on Muzzafarpur shelter home rape case: 'If someone related to minister is involved, they won't be spared'

Bihar Chief Minister Nitish Kumar on Monday said that if someone related to any minister is involved in Muzaffarpur shelter home rape case, they won't be spared.

During his press conference in Patna on Monday, the Bihar CM said: "If someone related to the Minister is involved, they won't be spared. But why is this issue being raised only now."

"We had called Manju Verma  and she denied any involvement in the case. How is it justified to level baseless allegations?, said Kumar.

"Who knew about the Muzaffarpur case before our investigation, why did they not open their mouth?, asked the Bihar chief minister.

He also said: "The matter should be investigated by the Central Bureau of Investigation & the High Court should monitor their investigation."

"We acted after the TISS report. What about reports in other states?", he further asked.

Bihar CM's statement comes in response to senior BJP leader CP Thakur's statement that Bihar Social Welfare Minister Manju Verma should resign owning moral responsibility for the alleged sexual abuse of minor girls at a shelter home in Muzaffarpur.

"The scandal points at huge lapses on part of the state social welfare department. How could the department be unaware of such a huge racket taking place right under its nose?" Thakur told a regional news channel.

"There are also complaints of similar irregularities having taken place at other organisations controlled by the department," Thakur said.

The opposition also claimed that Manju Verma's husband had visited the disputed shelter home.

'BJP supports Manju Verma'

Bihar Deputy CM Sushil Modi today came out in support of Manju Verma. Sushil Modi took to Twitter to display support for Verma: “Bjp is fully in support of Manju Verma. No charges against her.”

Attacking the opposition, he further wrote in his tweet: “Those who have been chargesheeted  and summoned by CBI court in Raillway tender scam, whose 2 doz benami property attached by ED and Income Tax are lecturing us on morality.”

Muzaffarpur rocks Parliament

The matter of Muzaffarpur shelter home rape case today rocked the Parliament. RJD MP Jay Prakash Narayan Yadav on Monday raised the issue of Muzaffarpur shelter home case in Lok Sabha and said: "The girls where played with, like toys. The evidences are being tampered. There is direct involvement of the state government."

Congress leader Ranjeet Ranjan, who had filed an adjournment motion in the Lower House for the matter, demanded home minister Rajnath Singh's statement on the matter, the request was dismissed by the Speaker.

Meanwhile, Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) investigation into the matter has picked up pace, as the agency has taken all documents and evidences from local police and administration. CBI is getting in touch with TISS team who audited the shelter home in Muzaffarpur, news agency ANI reported.

Patna High Court has also sought a detailed action report from CBI and Bihar government in the matter.
