The Congress on Thursday sought to use the killing of Border Security Force (BSF) jawan in firing by Pakistan forces along the international border in Jammu to target Prime Minister Narendra Modi over the government's policy concerning the neighbouring nation.

Questioning the Modi government's peace overtures, senior Congress leader Randeep Singh Surjewala asked PM Modi to speak up over the BSF head constable Narender Singh's killing.

"Kahan gaya 56' ka seena aur kahan gayi laal aankh? Kahan gaya 1 ke badle 10 sar laane ka vaada? Govt is worried about the corrupt but not jawans. Modi ji uses Army for his political gains but doesn't think of their security. Nation demands answers you'll have to answer,"  Surjewala said.

"What is the Modi government doing?" he added.

The reaction from the Congress came a day after body of Narendra Singh, who had gone missing the near the international border by Pakistan in Ramgarh sector, Jammu on September 18, was found with multiple bullet injuries on his torso including neck. Reports said the BSF head constable was tortured by Pakistan forces before being shot.

India has already lodged a protest with Pakistan over the killing during the Directorate of Military Operations-level talks.
