All India Sikh Students Federation raises pro-Khalistan slogans

On the anniversary of Operation Bluestar, on Wednesday, All India Sikh Students Federation raised pro-Khalistan slogans inside Golden Temple premises in Amritsar, Punjab, reported ANI.

Meanwhile, security was tightened outside the temple in the wake of the anniversary. Several companies of paramilitary forces and Punjab police were deployed across the city to maintain law and order. 

Operation Bluestar, an Indian military operation occurred between 1 June and 8 June in 1984. It was ordered by the then Prime Minister Indira Gandhi. 

The decision was taken by the PM in order to establish control over the Harmandir Sahib Complex in Amritsar in the state of Punjab and remove militant religious leader Jarnail Singh Bhindranwale.

Bhindranwale and his militant armed followers were inside the complex buildings. 

On 31 October 1984, just four months after the operation, Indira Gandhi was assassinated by two of her trusted bodyguards-Satwant Singh and Beant Singh.
