South actor Prakash Raj is currently going through an emotional period following the death of his mother. For those unaware, his mother, Swarnalatha Raj, passed away on March 31, 2026, in Bengaluru due to age-related illness.

Her last rites were performed according to Christian customs, and a picture from the ceremony has been widely circulated online, leading to Prakash Raj being trolled. However, the Wanted actor responded to the criticism by replying to trolls on his social media handle on Thursday. Read on to find out what the matter is and what Prakash Raj said.

What did Prakash Raj say to to criticism over atheist remark?

For those who may not know, a video of Prakash Raj's mother's funeral has surfaced online where he can be seen in a church with his family. Alongside this, a video of one of his old interviews has also gone viral where he can be heard describing himself as an atheist. Based on this, some people have been questioning why, if he does not believe in God, he conducted his mother’s last rites according to religious traditions.

In response, Prakash Raj gave a direct reply on the social media platform. While sharing the screengrab of the viral post, he wrote, "Yes. I don't believe in god .. but my mother believed in her god. Who am i to deny her.. the right to be buried according to her belief. This is the basic respect we give one another. Will you Hate mongering monsters understand this #justasking."

On the work front, Prakash Raj was last seen in Birduda Kambula. As per details available on IMDb, he is also a part of Tamil drama Saraswathi. He will be next seen in Dacoit: A Love Story alongside Mrunal Thakur and Adivi Sesh in key roles. The film will hit the big screens on April 10, 2026.
