Delhi HC bans Honey Singh, Badshah's 2006 track Volume 1
In a statement, the Court said, "In whatever forms this song is available on social media platforms, it has to be taken down is clearly the opinion. No one can deny this. We cannot allow even the slightest of it to be on social media." The Bench recorded in its order, "The lyrics are not only offensive, but they are ex facie dehumanising and try to normalise the treatment of women as objects of ridicule and sexual gratification."
Why is Honey Singh, Badshah's 2006 track Volume 1 being taken down now?
The Court was hearing a case filed by Hindu Shakti Dal, asking social media platforms like YouTube, Google, and Spotify to remove all videos and audios of the song. During a recent concert, Honey Singh performed some lines from the song, confirming that it was the same song sung by him.
After listening to the song in his chambers, the Court said it was an extremely rare case where the content was so disturbing that conscience of the Court is shaken to the core. According to a report by Live Law, the matter is scheduled to be heard on Tuesday, 7 May 2026.
For the unversed, Volume 1 is a controversial song by Yo Yo Honey Singh which was released in 2000s. Upon its release, the song received massive backlash for its explicit lyrics.
