Shiv Sena supremo Balasaheb Thackeray's daughter-inlaw Smita Thackeray has decided to make a film titled Babri.
She first approached Aamir Khan for the lead role in the film, but the latter declined. He however, says the media report, helped her with the finer nuances of the script.
Smita has now almost made up her mind to induct Ajay Devgn for the lead role.
Says Smita: "This is a subject I had in mind for a while now. I want to put in my own views in the film but in a cinema format with cinematic liberties. I think the whole issue has been much politicised and coming from a political family, I wanted the film to come from a common man's point of view.
"And cinema is the only way to do it. After a lot of work,I have been able to put my final thoughts and the script is ready", she added.
"While working on the script, I met Aamir Khan and we had a few meetings on this subject. A lot of credit goes to him. I wanted him to be a part of my film as well. But he's busy with Reema Kagti's film and then he will be doing one with Yash Chopra.
"But he has been a great support and he really motivated me. I have now decided that the next best character for the role in Ajay Devgn.
"I have immense respect for him as an actor and he is the one who can do justice to the role. I am keeping my fingers crossed to do the film when I approach him. "
When asked about her family and their reaction to her making a film on such a controversial subject,Smita said: "I am not putting any communal point of view. I am making a film that I want to and I dont want to predict or assume anything.
"Having said that, I can't deny my association with a such a politically active family. I have not informed anyone about my intentions about making the film. I am a positive person and I am making the film in a positive light."
