Pune: Pune's City Pride multiplex today cancelled three shows of the film 'Bajirao Mastani' after protest by the volunteers of Bharatiya Janata Party Yuva Morcha.

The protest was led by Udaysinh Peshwa, the descendant of Peshwas, who was joined by Kothrud's BJP MLA, Medha Kulkarni, the descendant of Chhatrasal.

Protesters alleged that the film was an attempt to distort history. They also burnt an effigy of Sanjay Leela Bhansali and shouted slogans against the movie.

Confirming the news, Pushkar Chaphalkar, director of City Pride, said that they have stopped the selling of tickets for 'Bajirao Mastani' shows after the protest.

The protest, he informed, has not affected screening of other movies at the multiplex.

Earlier also, the descendants of Peshwa and Chhatrasal dynasty had organised a protest at Shaniwarwada against 'Bajirao Mastani' which stars Ranveer Singh, Priyanka Chopra and Deepika Padukone.

'Bajirao Mastani' is a historical romance film that narrates the story of the Maratha warrior Peshwa Bajirao I of the Maratha Empire and his second wife Mastani. Ranveer Singh and Deepika Padukone portray the titular protagonists, and Priyanka Chopra plays Bajirao's first wife Kashibai.

VHP, Bajrang Dal protest against 'Dilwale'

Meanwhile, VHP, Bajrang Dal activists have held protest at many places in India against screening of Shah Rukh Khan starrer ‘Dilwale' over his remark on the issue of intolerance.

In Jabalpur, protesters said that they are tore off the posters of Khan's movie.

In Gorakhpur, activists of Shiv Rashtra Sena burnt the effigy of Khand and poster of his movie.

‘Dilwale' is a romantic musical action comedy film directed by Rohit Shetty, and produced by Gauri Khan and Shetty under the banner of Red Chillies Entertainment and Rohit Shetty Productions respectively. The film stars Kajol, Shah Rukh Khan, Varun Dhawan, and Kriti Sanon in lead roles.
