Mumbai, Jun 16 :  Actress Minissha Lamba, who is excited about her upcoming film ‘Bheja Fry 2', feels male artists have an upper hand when it comes to comedy and not not many roles in this genre are written for women.

“I think comedy comes easy for women because right now there are not many roles written for women.. they are mainly men-oriented. It is rightfully so as men can perform variety of jokes that don't look nice on women,” Minissha told PTI.

“Like obvious sexual nature or double meaning jokes, it does not look nice when women are cracking it. It works better when a male artist does it,” she said.

After attempting romantic drama ‘Bachna Aye Haseeno', thriller - ‘Kidnap', ‘Well Done Abba', a political satire Minissha is trying her hands on comedy with ‘Bheja Fry 2' and ‘Hum Tum Aur Shabana'.

Directed by Sagar Ballary, ‘Bheja Fry 2', a comedy film, is a sequel to 2007 hit film but is free of the earlier shades although the protagonist remains the same.

The film revolves around Bharat Bhushan played by actor Vinay Pathak, kind-hearted, naive roly-poly tax inspector who is looking to fulfil his long cherished dream of becoming a singer. To further his ambition he enters a Game show which he wins and gets a gift of a free stay on a cruise ship.

“I have seen ‘Bheja Fry' earlier. This film is completely independent from the first film and the characters are new. So there was no need to go and watch the first film again,” Minissha said.

The bubbly actress essays the role of Ranjini, an executive producer of a reality show in the film.

“My character is the only one who does not get ‘Bheja Fried' by Bharat Bhushan. She sees his innocence and understands him, takes his side when everybody is absolutely nasty with him. He falls in love with her...adores her. But she regards him with patience and considers him as a good friend,” the 26-year-old said.

For her character of a producer in the film, Minissha was inspired by TV czarina Ekta Kapoor.

“Its a fact that Ekta has given birth to television industry in our country. She single handedly is responsible for creating a television empire. I know her,” Minissha said.

“I used to watch ‘Kahani Ghar Ghar Ki' and ‘Kyunki Saas Bhi Kabhi Bahu Thi'. These were the two serials that I used to watch a lot. But fact is she has this pulse on the nation and what kind of entertainment people need,” the actress said.

Produced by Mukul Deora, ‘Bheja Fry 2', starring Vinay Pathak, Kay Kay Menon, Minissha, Suresh Menon and Amol Gupte releases tomorrow. PTI
