Two days ago Bahujan Samaj Party (BSP) chief and former Chief Minister of Uttar Pradesh Mayawati made headlines by relieving her nephew Akash Anand of his responsibilities as her 'successor' and the national coordinator of the party. Now Anand's first reaction has come on this matter wherein he termed Mayawati as an "idol for the entire Bahujan community."

Akash Anand's first reaction

Taking to his official X account, Anand said, "Respected behen ji, you are a role model for the entire Bahujan community, crores of countrymen worship you. It is because of your struggles that today our society has got such political strength due to which the Bahujan community has learned to live with respect." "You are our universal leader. I respect your order. I will keep fighting till my last breath for Bhim Mission and my society. Jai Bhim, Jai Bharat," he added.

Mayawati removes Akash Anand as party co-ordinator, 'successor'

Notably, BSP chief Mayawati had divested Anand of his responsibilities on May 7. Announcing it on X, the former Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister had said she has taken the decision in the interest of the party and the movement and till the time Anand gains "full maturity". She said her brother and Akash's father Anand Kumar will continue to fulfil his responsibilities as before. The surprise decision had come on the day voting was held for the third phase of the Lok Sabha polls in the country.

Who is Akash Anand?

Akash Anand, the son of Anand Kumar, the younger brother of BSP leader Mayawati, holds an MBA degree from a prestigious college in London. He has been actively involved in the party's affairs for several years, demonstrating a commitment to connecting with the youth. Akash also took charge of organising the recent Assembly elections in three states (Rajasthan, Chhattisgarh and Madhya Pradesh) as part of his efforts to engage younger demographics.

Mayawati, who inherited the political legacy of Kanshi Ram to advance Dr Ambedkar's vision for the Bahujan Samaj, had announced on December 10, 2023, that her 29-year-old nephew Akash would be her political successor. Although the formal announcement was made four months ago, Akash had been apprenticing in the realm of politics under his aunt's guidance for nearly seven years, the report added.
