2017 has seen a sharp increase in ceasefire violations by Pakistan. Till August 1, there were 285 of such violations by the Pakistan Army, while in 2016, the number was significantly less at 228 for the entire year.
Defence Ministry spokesman, Lt Col Manish Mehta said that Pakistan army resorted to unprovoked, indiscriminate ceasefire violation in Mendhar sector at 5.30 a.m.
According to the sources, Pakistan army violated ceasefire by resorting to unprovked firing across the LoC in Chhamb sector at 6.05 p.m.
Lance Naik Mohammed Naseer, 35-year-old from border district of Poonch in J&K, was hit during the firing and shelling by the Pakistani troops on the Indian forward posts.
Deputy High Commissioner J P Singh was summoned over the alleged firing by Indian forces in Chirikot and Satwal sectors, Pakistan Foreign Office spokesperson Nafees Zakaria said in a statement.
There have been 20 ceasefire violations along the LoC and the International Border in Jammu region so far in June.
This was the second ceasefire violation by Pakistan in the past 24 hours.

The Indian Army said on Saturday it has killed 13 militants during last 96 hours as it foiled multiple infiltration bids on the line of control (LoC) in Jammu and Kashmir.
In their telephonic conversation, the two army commanders discussed the situation along the Line of Control which has witnessed increasing incidents of ceasefire violations by Pakistan in the last couple of months.
A spokesperson of the Pakistani military had tweeted the video clip titled "Pak Army strikes Indian Posts on LoC".
The 27-second video was released a day after it claimed to have killed five Indian soldiers while retaliating to India's "unprovoked ceasefire violation" in Tatta Pani sector along the LoC.
Rawat's visit comes at a time when there have been repeated instances of ceasefire violations by Pakistan in recent times.
The Army spokesman said in a statement that Indian troops were involved in "unprovoked ceasefire violation" at Tatta Pani along the LoC.
