In a major crackdown, spurious liquor has so far claimed 86 lives in three districts of Punjab including Tarn Taran, Amritsar Rural and Gurdaspur.
At least 86 people have died in the hooch tragedy in Punjab. About 100 raids were conducted in three affected districts of Amritsar Rural, Gurdaspur and Tarn Taran as part of a massive crackdown on Saturday.
Chief Minister Trivendra Singh Rawat expressed grief at the loss of lives in the incident and ordered a magisterial probe into it, saying the guilty must be given stern punishment.
Illegally manufactured liquor had been refilled into the original bottles which led to the 16 deaths. 10 persons who consumed the spurious liquor have lost their eyesight.

Wife of one Ramesh told reporters that there is no male member left in the family even to carry out the last rites of the four victims.
According to Additional District Medical Officer PK Khuntia, the villagers complained of stomach ache and loss of eyesight Monday night, soon after consuming liquor.
The additional district magistrate (finance and revenue) has been asked to conduct an inquiry and submit the conclusive report within 15 days.
After consuming the liquor, some people were admitted to the community health centre from where they were sent to Lala Lajpat Rai Hospital. During treatment, two persons died, while two others are in serious condition.
Nearly 150 people had died in the state, while many others remained hospitalised after consuming spurious liquor on February 21 this year.
Chief Minister Sarbananda Sonowal reviewed the condition of victims of the hooch tragedy undergoing treatment at JMCH. He expressed condolences to the bereaved families.
An inquiry into the incident was ordered by Assam Chief Minister Sarbananda Sonowal, while two excise officials of the district were suspended.
The main accused in the hooch tragedy in neighbouring Kushinagar district, which left nine people dead, has been arrested in Bhilwara district of Rajasthan, police said.
SP and BSP members trooped into the Well of the House, raising anti-government slogans.
The SIT has been constituted to make an in-depth enquiry into the tragedy that struck Saharanpur and Kushinagar districts in the state last week, said an official spokesperson.
In the crackdown following the deaths, a total of 9,269 litres of moonshine was seized in Uttar Pradesh and 1,066 litres in Uttarakhand.
Two people were arrested on Sunday in connection with the hooch tragedy that claimed over 70 lives in two adjoining districts in Uttarakhand and Uttar Pradesh last week, police said.
According to latest figures released by officials on Sunday, the death toll in the tragedy has increased to 97 and over 200 people have been arrested so far in a police crackdown.
In a fortnight-long drive begun Friday, the UP authorities have so far registered 297 cases after raids, arresting 175 people.
The death toll in the hooch tragedy rose to at least 61 people dying of the spurious liquor they drank at a Haridwar village, officials said.
