Senior Congress leader and former Union Minister P. Chidambaram joined the ongoing anti-CAA stir in Kolkata's Park Circus and assured the gathering that his party was with them. Chidambaram arrived at the Park Circus Maidan late on Friday while he was in the city on a party assignment.
The Supreme Court on Friday allowed Congress MP Karti Chidambaram to withdraw the Rs 20 crore which was deposited with the apex court registry as a condition for allowing him to travel abroad. The apex court in January and May 2019 had granted Karti Chidambaram permission to travel to foreign countries after depositing Rs 10 crore each respectively with the registry.
The Punjab Assembly is likely to table a resolution on Friday to repeal the amended Citizenship law. This move comes days after the Kerala Assembly passed a resolution against the Citzenship Amendment Act.
Asserting that Prime Minister Narendra Modi is not talking to his critics, senior Congress leader P Chidambaram on Monday urged him to select five critics and have a televised question and answer session on CAA so that people can reach their own conclusions on the amended citizenship law. The Congress leader said he hoped that the prime minister would respond favourably to his suggestion.
