The counting of votes at the Telangana's Sangareddy district municipalities has begun after the polling was conducted on February 11. These elections are part of the second ordinary polls to municipalities and municipal corporations in the state. A total of 11 municipalities in the district went to the polls to elect ward councillors. Sangareddy district consists of eleven municipalities namely, Andole-Jogipet, Gaddapotharam, Gummadidala, Indresham, Isnapur, Jinnaram, Kohir, Narayankhed, Sadasivapet, Sangareddy, and Zaheerabad. The Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP), Congress, the Bharat Rashtra Samithi (BRS), and All India Majlis-e-Ittehadul Muslimeen (AIMIM) are the main parties in Sangareddy district municipalities.
A strong voter response marked the municipal elections in Telangana on Wednesday, with 73.01 per cent turnout recorded across the state. Polling was conducted on a party basis in 116 municipalities and seven municipal corporations, making it one of the most politically significant civic exercises since the Congress came to power. The results are widely viewed as a crucial popularity test not only for the ruling Congress but also for the BJP and the BRS.
