The Congress has registered a big win in the Mancherial Municipal Corporation, winning 44 divisions of the total 60 divisions. The Bharat Rashtra Samithi (BRS), formerly the Telangana Rashtra Samithi (TRS), was a distant second after it won eight divisions. Meanwhile, the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) was at the third position, winning four divisions. Four independent candidates have also won. In the previous civic elections held in 2020, the then Telangana Rashtra Samithi (TRS), now known as the Bharat Rashtra Samithi (BRS), had secured control of the corporation and emerged as the single largest party by winning 21 seats. The Congress emerged as the second largest party with 14 seats.
The local body polls in Telangana were conducted across 123 Urban Local Bodies (ULBs), including 116 municipalities and seven municipal corporations, between 7 am and 5 pm on Wednesday. A total of 2,996 wards — 414 in municipal corporations and 2,582 in municipalities — went to the polls. Around 52.43 lakh registered voters were eligible to cast their votes, according to the Telangana SEC. The elections are being viewed as a key test of public support for the ruling Congress, as well as for the opposition BJP and the BRS.
