The Telangana State Election Commission (SEC) is conducting the counting of votes for the urban local body elections held on Wednesday across the state. Polling was conducted in 116 municipalities and seven municipal corporations. Mancherial was among the municipal corporations that went to the polls. According to the SEC, the Mancherial Municipal Corporation comprises 60 wards. In the previous civic elections held in 2020, the then Telangana Rashtra Samithi (TRS), now known as the Bharat Rashtra Samithi (BRS), had secured control of the corporation and emerged as the single largest party by winning 21 seats. The Congress emerged as the second largest party with 14 seats.
The local body polls in Telangana were conducted across 123 Urban Local Bodies (ULBs), including 116 municipalities and seven municipal corporations, between 7 am and 5 pm on Wednesday. A total of 2,996 wards — 414 in municipal corporations and 2,582 in municipalities — went to the polls. Around 52.43 lakh registered voters were eligible to cast their votes, according to the Telangana SEC. The elections are being viewed as a key test of public support for the ruling Congress, as well as for the opposition BJP and the BRS.
