Kolkata: Indian opening pair of Shikhar Dhawan And Murali Vijay continued the advantage bowlers provided by not losing their wicket as India finish day I of the 1st test at 37 for no loss.

Dhawan and Vijay faced off remaining 16 overs of the day without any problem. At stumped Dhawan was playing on 21(4X4) and Vijay on 17 (4X2).

For West Indies it was a disappointing day after they chose to bat in the morning on Eden garden wicket, notorious for a side batting in the fourth inning. West Indies collapsed  between lunch and tea after going to lunch at a reasonably better situation after the loss of Gayle and Powell. They were 138/2.

Though visitors started the inning cautiously before Gayle fell to Bhuvneshwar Kumar after scoring just 18. Soon Powell too departed becoming the first of four victims of debutant Mohammad Shami.

Marlon Samuel worked hard to rebuild the inning and took his side to lunch without further loss. But after completing his 19th half century he was totally beaten by Shami's in swinger which saw his middle stump wicket uprooted. He was the highest run getter with 65 runs studded with 11 fours and two sixes.

Samuel departure triggered the Caribbean collapsed as after him only Chanderpaul (36) showed some resistance rest just could not withstand the pressure Indian bowlers put.

For Shami it must have been a dream start to his test career as he took four wickets for 71 runs in his 17 overs.
