Australia are set to return to Zimbabwe after eight long years. While they visited in 2018 for a T20 tri-series that also included Pakistan, their last ODI assignment in Zimbabwe dates back to 2014. This time around, the Kangaroos will feature in a three-match ODI series in September, with all games scheduled to be played at the Harare Sports Club on September 15, 18 and 20.
The two sides have faced each other more recently in global competitions. During the 2026 T20 World Cup in Colombo, Zimbabwe secured a notable 23-run win over Australia, underlining their ability to challenge top teams. Courtesy of their remarkable win, the Sikandar Raza-led side also progressed to the Super Tens of the competition.
Now, the upcoming series is expected to play a role in both teams’ preparations for ODI World Cup 2027, set to be played next year. Zimbabwe will co-host the tournament along with South Africa and Namibia, making regular exposure to strong opposition an important part of their build-up.

Zimbabwe plan more international fixtures
Zimbabwe Cricket is also working to bring more international teams to the country. Tours involving Bangladesh and Afghanistan are being planned for June and October respectively, as part of a broader effort to increase regular international fixtures, which will not only give exposure to the players but also bring some much-needed revenue.
There are also longer-term plans in place, including a push to host more Test cricket in the next World Test Championship cycle. Zimbabwe are hopeful of welcoming England for a one-off Test in 2027, potentially at a new stadium being developed near Victoria Falls. Last year, Zimbabwe and England played a four-day Test in May, ending a long gap between meetings in the format.
