Exclusive: Kejriwal is a 'habitual liar', all options open for govt formation- Delhi BJP chief Satish Upadhyay

New Delhi: Satish Upadhyay, the newly appointed Delhi BJP president, may be a lightweight in BJP compared to his predecessors but he has a clear vision on how to achieve his objectives as party president.

Q: Can Satish Upadhyaya also be that face?

Satish Upadhyay: No. There is no question of Satish Upadhyay being that face. I have no such ambitions. There are many senior leaders in my party who can discharge this responsibility.  I have to work like a trustee only and my only priority is to reach out to communities who are still not with BJP completely like SCs, STs, Sikhs and minorities.

Q: Arvind Kejriwal has made serious allegations against you. He says you are offering Rs 20 crore each to some of his MLAs. How would you react to that?

Satish Upadhyay: I need not say anything on that. But let me point out something. Things are coming out contrary to what Kejriwal is saying. Take the case of Congress MLA Asif Khan who has released the video tape accusing AAP of trying to split the Congress. It seems Kejriwal is frustrated and is in a hurry. Actually he was always in a hurry. He wanted early elections. He was in a hurry to become CM and PM. He even left the CM chair in a hurry. He has been in a hurry in making present allegations as well.

Kejriwal spent crores of rupees on buying spy cameras. He had even advised the people of Delhi to do stings. If he is the sting mastermind then why didn't he do the sting if his MLAs were being offered Rs 20 crore? He should come with proof before the  media. One of our MLAs has filed a defamation case against him.

He first tweeted that L-G would be inviting BJP to form the government. Then he retracted and tweeted again that we are just seeking appointment with L-G. He is just trying to mislead everybody. First he said certain things about BJP,  then he targeted Congress. He keeps doing all this.

Q: Are you saying that he is a ‘habitual liar'?

Satish Upadhyay: Absolutely. He is a habitual liar. There is evidence for the same. He went to court and said that elections should be held in Delhi. I can say with full proof that he met L-G and asked him to wait for some days as we are exploring options. And the Asif episode throws light on what kind of options he was trying to explore. What more proof do you need? It's his habit to lie and mislead people.

Q: But can you explain how would you manage majority in assembly? The numbers are such that you have to seek support of either Congress or AAP MLAs. Can you throw light on your strategy?

Satish Upadhyay: You are right. Our numbers are not enough to form a government in assembly. If L-G invites us to form the government, we'll analyse and discuss the situation within the party. If we are in a position to form the government, we'll say yes. If we are not in a position to form the government, we'll say No. We have not made any strategy beforehand. We have not done any horse-trading and we have no such plans either.

Q: Kejriwal has also said that if BJP has to form the government then they should present he list of MLAs to the L-G.

Satish Upadhyay: Kejriwal need not worry about us. He should worry about his own party. We don't need his suggestions. We fully know the law of the land and constitutional provisions.
