New Delhi: Prime Minister Narendra Modi today lauded Rail Minister Suresh Prabhu saying the Rail Budget 2016-17 presented by him is a big step in developing India.

Congratulating Prabhu and the entire team behind the Rail Budget, Modi said, along with IT, investment has been given importance.

“A passenger centric #RailBudget2016 without any fare hike. यात्री की गरिमा, रेल की गति और राष्ट्र की प्रगति।“ he tweeted. 

“Our efforts to comprehensively transform railways will gain even more momentum with this development oriented #RailBudget2016. @RailMinIndia,” his tweet further reads.

Throwing light on government's vision towards railways, he said, “The boost to investment outlay shows our Government's long term vision for the Railways & the Nation. #RailBudget2016 @RailMinIndia.”

“Rail Budget showcases a vision to reorganise, restructure & rejuvenate Railways with new processes, structures, norms & sources of revenue.”

“#RailBudget2016 caters to all sections of society. It stands out because it is an infrastructure-led & employment generating budget,” followed his next tweet.

He continued further, “Launch of unreserved, superfast trains, Antyodaya Express & Deen Dayalu coaches illustrate our unwavering commitment to serving the poor.”

Focusing on the north-eastern region, he said, “Announcement to strengthen rail connectivity in Manipur & Mizoram is gladdening. Connectivity in Northeast is one of our core priorities.”

“#RailBudget2016's Vision 2020 will make the Indian Railways free from capacity constraints with higher train speed, punctuality & safety,” he concluded.

Presenting his second Rail Budget, Prabhu said that core objective is to become an engine of employment generation and economic growth at national level. 

He proposed no changes in passenger fares and freight rates, adding that Railways will generate 9 crore man-days employment by 2017-18 and 14 crore man-days by 2018-19.
