New Delhi: Prime Minister Narendra Modi today expressed his grief over Rajasthan farmer Gajendra Singh's suicide. 

He said that the issue of farmers' suicide is a cause of concern for all form many years. 

"For many years, farmers suicide has been a cause of concern for the nation and the governments.  Because of yesterday's incident, the grief in country has been expressed here, I also share this grief," he said. 

The Prime Minister also called for a comprehensive solution to address this menace. 

"We should all vow to work together and find a solution for this age old problem. We have to find solutions. The problem is old, widespread, government will accept all suggestions. Nothing more valuable than human life," he said. 

"I join in the grief expressed in this House. We also have to see which wrong road we walked. What were the wrong steps in the past & now," he added. 

Gajendra, a resident of Dausa in Rajasthan, hanged himself before more than a thousand people at a kisan rally called by AAP to protest NDA government's Land Acquisition Bill at Jantar Mantar.

The 43-year-old man, father-of-three, was politically ambitious. He had unsuccessfully contested 2008 and 2013 Rajasthan assembly elections as a Samajwadi Party candidate. After that, he wanted to join AAP.

Earlier, Home Minister Rajnath Singh issued a statement in Lok Sabha and offered his condolences to deceased farmer Gajendra Singh's family. 

"I offer my condolences to Gajendra Singh's family, also from PM and GoI. This matter shouldnt be politicised," Rajnath Singh said in Lok Sabha.

Rajnath, who controls Delhi Police through Lieutenant Governor, told the raging members that an FIR has been registered at the Parliament Street police station and he has asked the police to get the matter investigated by Crime Branch. 

He informed the house that the Police had , in fact, requested people who were gathered at the venue to stop applauding and raising slogans.
