With opposition parties stalling Parliament proceedings over the alleged phone tapping of leaders, Congress on Monday accused them of trying to score political brownie points on the issue.

"The fundamental question is whether you are looking for a reply from the government or are you looking for scoring political brownie points," Congress spokesperson Manish Tiwary told reporters outside Parliament.

He was responding to the opposition demand for Prime Minister's statement on the phone tapping issue.

He said the Home Minister had categorically stated on the floor of the House that there was no tapping of phones of any politicians ever authorised by the government.

"There is an ongoing inquiry and if something emerges in the inquiry it would be shared in the House. There cannot be anything more candid or transparent than what the Home Minister has said in the House," Tiwari said.

"If Opposition wants to make political capital out of it, then what can one do. The issue has been sufficiently clarified by the Home Minister in the House," he said. PTI
