Maharashtra excise minister Ganesh Naik's strategy of going it alone without ally Congress has worked as NCP retained power in municipal corporation elections in neighbouring Navi Mumbai.NCP secured 55, Congress 13, Shiv Sena 16 and BJP one seat in the elections for the 89 seats. Polling was held on Sunday and counting Monday.
Elections were also held in Aurangabad, Ambernath and Kulgaon Badlapur municipal corporations.
In Aurangabad, the Sena-led saffron combine retained power. Of the 99 seats, Sena won 31, BJP 14, Congress 19 and NCP 11. Shahar Pragati Aghadi won three and MNS one.PTI
