New Delhi: Attacking the Narendra Modi government over sugar price hike, Congress on Monday said people are wondering whether the promised good days will come only in 2019, when the next Lok Sabhs polls are scheduled.

"In the run-up to the Lok Sabha polls, a slogan was given that this time it should be a Modi government as enough of price rise has happened, but the good days began with 50 paisa rise in diesel price. Then prices of fruits and vegetables rose.

"Then the Prime Minister said that some bitter pills will have to be consumed. First the rail fare and freight rose and now it is the sugar price that rose. People are now asking whether the good days will come in 2019," party spokesperson Shobha Oza told reporters at the AICC briefing.

Oza also said that people have given 282 seats, 10 more than the majority mark, to the  Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) to ensure that Government does not face any difficulty in brining its promised good days to the countrymen.

Her remarks came as sugar prices rose up to Rs60 per quintal in the country's leading wholesale markets on stockists buying after the government raised import duty on the sweetener to 40% besides additional interest-free loan of Rs4,400 crore for mills.
