Banaskantha, Gujarat, Sept 30: Gujarat Congress today slammed the BJP government in the state by saying that its only legacy was “fear, hunger and corruption”.
Chairman of the Congress's election campaign committee in Gujarat, Shanker Singh Vaghela, visited the Ambaji temple in the district today, and later addressed a rally at Palanpur.
Vaghela said, “This government's rule has given fear, hunger and corruption to the people and nothing else. This needs to be changed.”
He made a slew of promises to the people, ahead of the assembly election that is yet quite distant (2012-end). “Electricity rates will be reduced to Rs 400 per watt-power;
VAT on diesel will be reduced by 43 paise per litre with subsidy increase of 50 paise per litre....VAT on fertiliser too would be abolished,” he said.
He took a dig at the Chief Minister Narendra Modi who had earlier called state Governor Dr Kamla as ‘mother figure' but who is at loggerheads with her over Lokayukta issue. “If she is a mother-figure, why is Modi afraid of the present Lokayukta appointed by her?” Vaghela asked.
The Modi government served only a few industrialists and not the common man, he said. PTI
