Live reporting: Youths in Guna, Chhatarpur lap up Modi's speeches as he lambasts Congress

Chattarpur: In the backwaters of Madhya Pradesh, a strange brew of admiration mixed with awe was noticed on Monday for BJP leader Narendra Modi in places as disparate as Guna and Chhatarpur. Young men crowding at these rallies responded with full-throated shouts of 'Yes' and 'No', as Modi, the juggler, went through his routine asking the audience to say whether BJP is a party of thieves or not, whether Congress has fooled the people by not implementing its promise of lowering prices in 100 days, and so on. Guna is considered the stronghold of Jyotiraditya Scindia, the Scindia family scion, Union Minister and Congress' chief ministerial candidate for Madhya Pradesh, but the crowds response towards Modi was bewildering. In Guna, Modi today initially avoided mentioning Rahul Gandhi as 'shahzaade' and referred to him as Congress Party vice-president, but the moment he switched on to the words 'Shahzaade' and 'Madam' the crowds roared in approval. Modi was mentioning how Rahul Gandhi was declaring Manmohan Singh's Cabinet decision on ordinance as 'nonsense' when the PM was in Washington. He also mentioned how Rahul mentioned BJP as a party of thieves. And then he went on to ask the PM: "Who is lowering the level of debate? BJP or shahzaade?"The crowds needed no prompting to voice their Ayes and Nays. Modi, in Guna, appeared so confident that he said BJP was going to return to power at the Centre next year, and "by June 2014, the Congress leaders will be finding their places in jail cells".Follow the live updates of the Guna election rally: 3:57 pm: The crowds at this rally shows which way the wind is blowing : Modi. There is pro-incumbency wave here, he says.4:00 pm: For 50 years the Congress worked on the policy, 'throw them crumbs and get the votes' This is in the "blood" of Congress, says Modi. They learnt 'divide and rule' from the British, says Modi. They first divided our country, then divided us into religions, into castes, into languages, into biradaris (clans). They mixed poison into our nation's body politic so much, that it will take a wrong time to remove it. 4:01 pm: Mentions Swami Vivekananda, who had said India will one day become the 'jagatguru' of the world. The country needs the politics of assimilation, not the politics of divisiveness, says Modi. 4:05 pm: This election is being fought on the issues of development, not on the basis of castes, regions or clans. 65 percent of India's population is below 35, and India has the world's largest youth population. The youths can change the face of India, says Modi. 4:08 pm: Now begins Modi's trademark Q&A session. Congress had promised to bring down prices in 100 days when it was elected in 2009. Did it bring down prices? Answer: NO. Did Congress break its promsies? Answer: YES. In India, people don't forgive people who break promises. 4:10 pm: This nation will not accept the promises of "dhokebaaz" (betrayers), says Modi. 4:11 pm: Nowadays our PM is worried about the level of debate in elections. Who did it? When the PM was in the US, it was his party's vice-president who tore up the ordinance and described it as 'nonsense'. The leader from this region (read:Digvijay Singh), runs a jhoot (lies) manufacturing factory, says Modi. And the telling BJP a party of 'chors'? Who is making a 'shor'(noise) about 'chor(thieves), asks Modi rhetorically. 4:16 pm: The moment Modi utters the word 'shahzaade', the crowd breaks into applause. Shahzaade said, we are chor, Yes, we are chor, We have stolen the sleep of Congressmen, (the crowd again applauds). Nowadays at night, the Congress leaders remain awake, thinking of June 2014, in which cell they will be keptm, behind which jail bars, what type of locks will be there, what will be the punishment. Yes, we have stolen their sleep. "doodh ka doodh aur paani ka paani ho jayega". 4:19 pm: Whatever is being spent in Gujarat, is it Narendra Modi's money, or in MP, is it Shivraj's money? But, Madam (applause again) and Shahzaade come and say they send money from Delhi but no work is done. Is it their personal money? the money belongs to the people of India, and we in the BJP, in 2014, will act as chowkidars for the treasury. We won't allow anybody's panja (hand, alluding to Congress symbol) on that treasury. (applause). 4:22 pm: The 20-point programme initiated by Indira Gandhi, and carried forward by Morarji Desai, Vajpayee and other prime ministers is being implemented for the poor. Every three months their used to be reviews, and every 6 months, Centre used to publish a booklet showing the performance of states. The top 5 positions belonged to BJP-ruled states. When I pointed this out to the PM, the Centre completely stopped publishing the booklet.4:24 pm: The Congress ruled MP for 45 years. During Congress rule, rice production was 108 lakh tonnes, during Shivraj Chouhan's rule it went up to 230 lakh tonnes, During Congress rule, wheat output was 42 lakh tonnes, now it is 130 lakh tonnes, During Congress rule, milk output was 50-55 lakh litres, now it is 90 lakh litres. During Congress role, roads were in bad shape, there was frequent power cuts, but Shivrajji changed all that.
