New Delhi, Mar 14: DMK president M Karunanidhi today welcomed the election of Argentine Cardinal Jorge Bergoglio as the new Pope, hailing him for his simplicity.
The election of the cardinal as Pope gives "immense joy," Karunanidhi said in a party statement.
"We are proud to know that he has been leading a simple life for long, one who uses public transport and cooks his own meals. I join the catholic christians in this joyous occasion," he said.
